Right in the heart of the city, you have the opportunity to see the ancient ruins of the roman theater of Lisbon. (Alfama Quarter or Alhama, the oldest quarter of Lisbon, well-known for its water since earlier times)

Just in Portugal you'll find this feeling. There is no translation of this word to any other language due to the uniqueness of the meaning.

If there is a place in Lisbon you'll find indians, arabs and a lot of another nationalities its in Martim Moniz.
It used to be the place where the Moors were located (outside the Castle and the old city) and today it has this monuments that remind us how it was the life in this Quarter, where Fado was sang.

Retratos de fadistas.

Some Fado's singers who gave life to these streets.

The place where Maria Severa lived.

O famoso quadro "Fado, José Malhoa".

The paint, "Fado, José Malhoa" in one of the streets of Mouraria. An honour to the first singer of Fado that we have heard,

The modern art can obviously fit very well the old quarters. This beautiful piece of art bring us to the origins of fado, a song that was linked prostitution.

#Tascas#UmaBoaEscolha.

Tascas it's a litlle typical restaurant where it fits around 10 people inside it. This one is really nice especially for foreigners because you'll find the environent of a quarter if you get in. It has the typical food and more important, you will find the quarter inhabitants working in here (that old lady that works here for 30/40 years... :) ) - that's what you find in Tascas.

And now we start, going straight ahead on Almirante Reis, one of the famous streets in Lisbon, not for a good reason, famous for being dangerous. But don't be afraid, at least during the day, just pay atention to your belongings as another place within the city.

A Fábrica de Cerâmica Viúva de Lamego, construída em 1849.
Repare no detalhe do símbolo de Lisboa a dourado.

The factroy of ceramics, built in 1849.
(Can you see that gold item in the photo? Well is the symbol of Lisbon, the boat along with the ravens)

XIX

This was the place where people used to come to take some water home. There was no water in their house, so imagine all the environment in a city where all inhabitants must interact. Kind of diferent this city.

This is the symbol of Lisbon's city, and you'll see it all around in some little details . this are the Ravens of Saint Vicent. There is a legend that says that by the time of Emperor Dioccleciano (during the persecution of Christians), Vicente was martyred by this emperor, who also leftb his body openair to serve as food to the birds. Amainzingly, they never touched the saint's body, and as said, two ravens protected him during all the journey from Sagres (were it was hidden) to here.

The typical portuguese's house (high and decorated with glazedtiles)

Martim Moniz, the captain who bring us to the conquest of the city.

 A Praça Martim Moniz revitalizada.

Martim Moniz Square.

The old most dangerous square of the city, nowadays it as bars, places where to eat for every taste. A relaxing square, where you do can relax, because even massages you have here. The environment is priceless, with all the foreigners in the square that make of this place their home.
